Preparing Tomorrow's Workforce

Transition Training Services

Planning for the future is an important component of every youth’s program. After talking with a youth about his or her interests, strengths and weaknesses, as well as short- and long-term goals, a Transition Plan is created. The most common goals for youth include pursuing vocational training or further academic education, getting a job, and living independently. This Plan outlines activities that will assist the youth in achieving his or her goals.

Classroom-based activities include life skills instruction, career exploration and work-readiness training. Independent Living Skills and Career Assessments enable staff to identify areas that need to be addressed prior to a youth's tranition. Counseling and instruction enable youth to thencreate a viable Career and Transition Plan.

Community-based activities is a cooperative effort between ERI, employers, schools and social services. This training provides youth with hands-on activities designed to teach basic independent living and work readiness.

Please note that the Oberle School will continue to assist special education students who earn their high school diploma but are still in need of transition services until their 22nd birthday.
